Athletic Court Maintenance

When you see any twigs or small rocks on your court’s surface, make sure you remove these from the surface of your court. Stepping on rocks or twigs, then twisting and sliding your foot on these can really scratch up your court’s sports surface and cause damage that can only be fixed by resurfacing (re-painting) the court. You can remove this type of debris by blowing it off the court with a small blower (of course the bigger the blower the faster you will blow debris off the court). It’s a great idea to occasionally take a look at your court and determine how long it takes for your court to surpass an acceptable amount of dust/debris. Then you can create a maintenance schedule to for example; blow your court’s surface off every 3 weeks.

Rinsing your court is the second most important maintenance practice for your court. Rinsing is NOT something that you do to your court weekly, or even bi-weekly. Instead, rinsing your court is something you do once every 2 months, or even once every  months. Depending on how dirty and “dusty” your court gets, you can decide when it’s to rinse your court. A monthly court rinse is better suited for a court that seems to get dirty/dusty frequently. However, a court which does not seem to get too dirty often, can be rinsed every  6 months.

Rinsing your court too often can cause the court to start loosing it’s grip and surface texture prematurely, leading to erosion and excessive softening of your court’s surface. Rinse your court only every now and then, when you can see that your court seems excessively dirty and dusty.

This is a special type of court wash used in courts that are growing mold. Here in Arziona mold growth on outdoor courts is not too common, however, it still occurs occasionally. By using sodium hypochlorite mixed in with water through a very light pressure washer, we are able to kill and eliminate mold growing in a court, leaving behind a clean court.
