Our client had recently built a new concrete slab for his Pickleball court construction project. He had hired a previous concrete contractor to pour his concrete Pickleball court. Concrete for new athletic court slabs should contain an even medium broom finish, be built to be as leveled as possible to provide proper slope, and avoid surface depressions (to prevent water from accumulating in low spots). This court however, contained very rough patches of concrete, way beyond a medium broom finish classification. Many areas were unleveled, meaning waster was able to sit in these areas. Sitting water on sports surfaces is detrimental because it can lead to blistering of the sports surface paint. The slab was poured in two sections These two sections were vertically displacing from one another. We remedied the rough concrete surfaces with grinders to leave a CSP 3 (corresponds to a medium broom finish texture classification) in such areas and grinded down high spots on the court to reduce the effects of low spots. The results of our work to remedy and resurface this court can be seen above.
